How to Care For Your New
Tattoo
The life of your tattoo is dependant upon the care that
it receives within the first few days. It generally takes two
weeks for the skin to heal and another two weeks for the ink to settle
in.
Remember the following tips to ensure the quality of your tattoo:
- DO NOT bandage your tattoo.
- DO NOT use Vaseline or petroleum jelly.
- DO NOT use alcohol or peroxide.
- DO NOT pick or scratch at the tattoo.
- DO NOT soak the tattoo is the tub or shower.
Stay out of pools, hot tubs, oceans, etc. for at least two weeks.
Keep tattoo out of direct sunlight and/or tanning beds.
Apply a THIN layer of antibiotic ointment, such at Neosporin or
Bacitracin, 4-5 times a day for 2-3 days. After the first 3
days, switch to lotion.
You may, instead, prefer to use a good fragrance-free lotion such
as Lubriderm, Jergens or Eucerin. Make sure that whatever lotion
you use IS fragrance free AND non-petroleum based.
Usually any WHITE lotion will be non-petroleum based. Apply
a THIN layer at least 6 times a day for the entire healing process
(2 weeks). DO NOT over lubricate your tattoo; however, DO NOT
let it dry out either. Should you over lubricate the tattoo,
gently dab off the excess lotion with a clean paper towel.
If a rash occurs (bumps on or around the tattoo as with an allergic
reaction) or redness persists, discontinue use and contact us immediately
for product alternatives. If acute allergic reaction occurs
at anytime, contact your doctor or nearest hospital.
It is important to remember, your tattoo is a wound for the first
2 weeks. You must treat is as such. Please use common
sense when caring for the tattoo and make sure your hands are clean
when you apply all ointments. All towels, tissues or other objects
that come in contact with your new tattoo should be clean and/or preferably
sterile.
Your tattoo will be with you for the rest of your life, so a few
weeks of being extra careful will help to protect your investment.
